The Power of Wind

Summary: In 2008, Florida Power and Light (FPL) announced its proposal to aid Florida in its goal of reducing greenhouse gasses by providing an alternative energy resource. FPL planned to construct windmills on Hutchinson Island in St. Lucie County (Department of Environmental Protection [DEP], 2008). However, the plan proposed by FPL for the construction of windmills on Hutchinson Island would prove to be an inefficient and costly project in Florida. Energy is a social and economic necessity for every resident of St. Lucie County. Currently, alternative energy resources such as wind energy are being looked into for providing a renewable energy source that can offer an ample amount of energy in a more practical manner than is used for fossil fuels. more…
